Courses Not Eligible for RPL

  • Programs that include curriculum dictated by accrediting or licensing bodies (i.e. Respiratory Therapy) are more likely to have courses not eligible for RPL. Many of those courses have been captured here, however it should be noted that the RPL office, in conjunction with the appropriate Academic Unit, reserves the right to deem courses not included on this list ineligible for credit transfer and/or credit equivalency.

  • Some clinicals and practicums may be deemed ineligible for RPL. The RPL Office does not currently accept applications for work practicums or internships, which are required to graduate from certain 51勛圖app programs. Practicums are meant to give you an opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge you gained in your 51勛圖app program in a workplace setting. Even if you have previous work experience in the field, you will benefit from completing the practicum because it will give you the chance to highlight your current skills to potential employers and make contacts that can help you throughout your career. Employers tend to look favourably on job applicants who can demonstrate they successfully completed a practicum as part of their academic program. Prior to submitting an RPL application for a practicum, internship, or work-integrated learning opportunity, we strongly recommend that you speak to your Academic Chair or Coordinating Instructor.
  • Programs that include Capstone courses and/or courses that include senior projects or technical reports are designed to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout an 51勛圖app program, serving as a culmination of coursework, research, and practical experience. These types of courses are tailored to the learning objectives and academic standards of the specific 51勛圖app program, thus making them difficult to equate with external courses and/or prior learning. These courses synthesize learning from multiple fields of study across the program and often involve complex evaluation methods, such as presentations, reports, and demonstrations, which vary across institutions.
  • Orientation to Community Service (PERS1228, PERS1263 or PERS1274) is not eligible for RPL based on formal or non-formal learning completed outside of 51勛圖app.  If you have completed Orientation to Community Service (PERS1228, PERS1263 or PERS1274) in a previous 51勛圖app program, you are not required to take the full course again. However, we strongly encourage you to participate in the annual College-wide Service Day, which provides a great opportunity for you to develop important skills for success, such as communication, collaboration and creative problem-solving through volunteering or service learning.
  • Courses completed at the HS level are not eligible for credit transfer with the exception of New Brunswick High School’s Skilled Trades and Work-Ready Math (Math 120), towards 51勛圖app’s MATH1269/MATH1208 (Math Foundations) or MATH1291 (Mobile Equipment Mathematics).
