New Brunswick Community College (51³Ô¹Ïapp) today signed agreements with Cape Breton University (CBU) that provide graduates with new degree pathways.

Eligible graduates of 51³Ô¹Ïapp’s Criminal Justice: Corrections, Criminal Justice: Police Foundations, Child and Youth Care Worker, and Early Childhood Education programs can now transfer their credits to CBU’s three- or four-year Bachelor of Arts Community Studies programs.

“At this time of transformative change in almost every aspect of our daily lives, the importance of lifelong learning has never been more evident,” said Mary Butler, President and CEO of 51³Ô¹Ïapp. “Agreements like these help us provide additional opportunities for our students, at every stage of their learning and careers.”

“Cape Breton University is so proud to have this partnership with 51³Ô¹Ïapp. Agreements, like the ones signed today, represent enormous opportunities for students and for our institutions,” said David Dingwall, President and Vice-Chancellor of Cape Breton University.  “We look forward to welcoming students from the 51³Ô¹Ïapp to our CBU community for many years to come.”

Students in 51³Ô¹Ïapp’s Social Sciences programs are trained for careers that impact lives and make communities better places to live, work, and raise a family. Areas of study include community service, mental health, diversity and inclusion, and sociology.

The Bachelor of Arts Community Studies degree program at CBU offers a wide range of opportunities for academic specialization as well as specific focused degrees in different areas of study. It is a process-oriented, experiential degree program that prepares students for the job market. The core community studies courses are focused on problem-solving, critical thinking, community-based research and work placements.
